When administered at prescribed levels, desloratadine rarely causes drowsiness. However, do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in any other activity that demands attentiveness until you are certain you can do so safely.
Drugs that influence hepatic microsomal enzymes may cause a rise in plasma concentrations (for example, azithromycin, cimetidine, erythromycin, fluoxetine, ketoconazole).
Loratadine and desloratadine are quite similar. When taking desloratadine, avoid taking any drugs that include loratadine.
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient.
Desloratadine is a long-acting, non-sedating, selective peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist that stops human mast cells and basophils from releasing pro-inflammatory mediators.
Adults and adolescent of 12 years or over : 5 mg once daily.
Child 6-11 years : 2.5 mg once daily.
Child 12 months-5 years : 1.25 mg (2.5 ml syrup) once daily.
Child 6 months-11 months : 1 mg (2 ml syrup) once daily.
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
