Precautions and warnings
Use caution in patients with low blood volume or sodium, existing kidney problems, narrowing of the aortic or mitral heart valves, thickened heart muscle (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), narrowing of the kidney arteries, or a condition called primary hyperaldosteronism. People who have had angioedema (swelling) or hives before should also be careful. It’s important to check potassium levels, especially in older adults and those with kidney problems. Low blood pressure can happen during major surgery or anesthesia because this medicine affects the body’s renin-angiotensin system.

Drug Interactions
NSAIDs can make blood pressure medicines less effective and may harm the kidneys, sometimes causing sudden kidney failure. They can also raise the level of lithium in the blood. Using potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes with potassium increases the risk of too much potassium in the blood.
Serious Warning: Taking NSAIDs together with aliskiren (especially in people with diabetes) can raise the risk of kidney problems, low blood pressure, and high potassium levels.
Contraindications
Do not use if you are allergic to this medicine. Avoid during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Mode of actions
Candesartan works by blocking angiotensin II from attaching to AT1 receptors in different parts of the body, such as blood vessels and the adrenal glands. This prevents blood vessels from narrowing (vasoconstriction) and stops the release of aldosterone.
Dosage & Administration
Oral
Hypertension
Adult: Initially, 8 mg once daily adjusted according to response. Maintenance: 8 mg once daily. Max: 32 mg/day as single or in 2 divided doses. Patients w/ intravascular volume depletion: Initially, 4 mg once daily.
Child: 1 to 6 yr 50 kg: 8-16 mg/day, adjusted according response to 4-32 mg/day. All doses may be given as single or in 2 divided doses.
Hepatic impairment: Mild to moderate: Initially, 4 mg once daily. Severe: Contraindicated.
Heart failure
Adult: Initially, 4 mg once daily, may be doubled at intervals of not
Pregnancy & Lactation
This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.
There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
