Precautions and warnings

People with congestive heart failure (CHF), dehydration, kidney or liver problems, or a history of stomach or intestinal diseases should be careful. This also applies to elderly individuals and people taking blood thinners (anticoagulants).

Drug Interactions

Warfarin, lithium, methotrexate, digoxin, cyclosporin, and aspirin may work more strongly when taken together. The effect of some diuretics and beta-blockers may be weaker. Alcohol can make stomach irritation worse. Aspirin may both increase and decrease the effects, depending on the situation.

Contraindications

Peptic ulcer, allergy to etodolac or other NSAIDs. Not recommended for children, during the third trimester of pregnancy, or while breastfeeding.

Mode of actions

Etodolac is a type of NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that comes from pyrano-indoleacetic acid. It works by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), which lowers the production of substances called prostaglandin precursors that cause inflammation and pain.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: 600-1000 mg/day in divided doses adjusted according to response. Max: 1200 mg/day.

ER tablet: Once daily

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.

There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
