Drug Interactions
Stopping this medication suddenly after using clonidine may make rebound high blood pressure worse. It can also slow down the heart's electrical signals when taken with digitalis glycosides. If taken together with hydrochlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, or theophylline, your body may not absorb as much of the medication. Using it with certain calcium channel blockers, like nifedipine, can raise the chances of low blood pressure and heart failure.
Contraindications
Do not use in people with allergies to this drug, slow heart rate (sinus bradycardia), heart block beyond first degree, shock caused by heart problems (cardiogenic shock), severe heart failure that isn't controlled, or in people with low blood pressure. Also, avoid during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.
Mode of actions
Celiprolol is a type of beta-blocker that mainly affects the heart. It also has some mild stimulating effects and helps widen blood vessels.
Dosage & Administration
Oral
Hypertension
Adult: 200-400 mg once daily.
Renal impairment:
CrCl (ml/min)
15-40 100-200 mg/day.
Pregnancy & Lactation
This medicine is not allowed during pregnancy. Do not use it if you are pregnant. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict effective birth control during treatment and for six months after stopping this medicine. If you do become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and discuss your doctor right away.
There is no specific information on whether this medicine passes into breast milk or not. Considering the possible risks for the children, breastfeeding while using this medicine is not recommended and at least two weeks after the last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
