Use with caution in people with epilepsy, heart disease, pregnancy, a history of urinary retention, or glaucoma. Stop taking this medication slowly—do not quit suddenly. This medicine may make it unsafe to drive or use machines.
Methylphenidate can raise the amount of doxepin in your blood.
**Warning:**
- It can dangerously increase blood pressure when taken with sympathomimetic drugs.
- It can also make the side effects of MAOIs (such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and constipation) worse.
- When used with other anticholinergic drugs, CNS depressants, or alcohol, it can lead to stronger side effects on the brain and nervous system.
Doxepin works by blocking the re-uptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain. This increases the levels of these chemicals in the spaces between nerve cells in the central nervous system.
Adult: PO Initial: 75 mg/day, up to 300 mg/day in severely depressed patients. Total daily dose >100 mg should be given in divided doses
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
