Precautions and warnings

Problems with heart rhythm, either present from birth or developed later, and a longer-than-normal QT interval. Weak heart function. Liver problems. Pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Drug Interactions

This medicine can have a stronger effect when taken with diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and beta-blockers. Cimetidine may raise its levels in your blood. Medicines that block or boost the CYP3A4 enzyme—like itraconazole (a blocker) or rifampicin (a booster)—can change how your body processes this drug. Taking it with corticoids or tetracosactide may make it less effective at lowering blood pressure.

Contraindications

Within one month of a heart attack, if you have cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, or aortic stenosis.

Mode of actions

Lacidipine is a strong calcium channel blocker from the dihydropyridine group. It mainly targets calcium channels in the muscle walls of blood vessels. By relaxing and widening small arteries, lacidipine helps lower the resistance in blood vessels and reduces blood pressure.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: PO Initial: 2 mg once daily, up to 4-6 mg/day if needed.

Pregnancy & Lactation

FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.

Discuss with your doctor if you are trying to get pregnant while taking this medicine too.

If you do become pregnant while you are taking this medicine, you should continue to take it and contact with your doctors as quickly as possible. They can assist you to decide whether or not to keep taking this medicine. If you abandon taking this medicine and become sick, this would be more pernicious to your child than staying on the medication.


There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. During this medication, if your baby becomes very sleepy, restless, fatigued, exhibit feeding problems, stop breastfeeding and talk to your doctors very quickly.
