Precautions and warnings
This should be used carefully in patients who have kidney problems or heart failure.
Side-effects
- In addition to the desired effect of the drug
- some side effects may appear such as: nausea
- constipation
- diarrhea or headache. In these cases consult a physician In case too big dosage has been taken
- there might appear a sensation of swelling. In this case it is advisable to consult a physician.
Contraindications
Sodium alginate and potassium bicarbonate should not be used in people who are allergic to them.
Mode of actions
Potassium depletion happens when the body loses more potassium, through urine or the digestive system, than it takes in. Taking potassium supplements can help correct this shortage. Potassium is important because it helps send nerve signals in the heart, brain, and muscles, and it also helps muscles contract.
Alginic acid is used along with an antacid or an H2-blocker to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). When alginic acid comes into contact with stomach acid, it forms a thick gel. This gel creates a barrier that helps prevent acid from flowing back up into the esophagus.
Dosage & Administration
Daily 4 times, after meals & before bedtime.
Tablet
Adult and child over 12 years: 1-2 tablets.
Child 6-12 years: 1 tablet.
Suspension
Adult and child over 12 years: 5-10 ml.
Child 2-12 years: 2.5-5 ml.
It is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.
Pregnancy & Lactation
FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.
Discuss with your doctor if you are trying to get pregnant while taking this medicine too.
If you do become pregnant while you are taking this medicine, you should continue to take it and contact with your doctors as quickly as possible. They can assist you to decide whether or not to keep taking this medicine. If you abandon taking this medicine and become sick, this would be more pernicious to your child than staying on the medication.
There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. During this medication, if your baby becomes very sleepy, restless, fatigued, exhibit feeding problems, stop breastfeeding and talk to your doctors very quickly.
