Precautions and warnings

Do not use Ciclesonide nasal spray if you have active or inactive tuberculosis (TB), or untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral infections, unless these are already being treated. People with severe liver problems should not use it. If children or teenagers are taking inhaled corticosteroids for a long time, their height should be checked regularly. If their growth slows down, the dose should be lowered. Ciclesonide nasal spray should be used carefully during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Be careful when using Ciclesonide nasal spray if you have a current or past lung infection like TB, or untreated fungal, bacterial, viral, or herpes infections in the eyes. Rare side effects like holes in the nasal septum, cataracts, or glaucoma have happened. Sometimes, people have gotten fungal infections in the nose or throat (like Candida). Although side effects are usually rare with the recommended dose, using too much can increase the risk of problems. So, do not use more than the recommended amount of Ciclesonide nasal spray.

Drug Interactions

Ciclesonide levels in the body may increase if taken together with ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, nelfinavir, or other strong CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Contraindications

Do not use this for status asthmaticus or severe acute asthma that requires intensive treatment. Ciclesonide nasal spray should not be used by anyone who is allergic to any of its ingredients.

Mode of actions

Ciclesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid. When it reaches the lungs, enzymes called esterases change it into its active form, desisobutyryl-ciclesonide, which helps reduce inflammation.

Dosage & Administration

Inhalation
Asthma
Adult: Usual dose 160 mcg once daily, preferably in the evening from a metered-dose inhaler; reduced to 80 mcg once daily for maintenance.

Child: >12 yr: Usual dose 160 mcg once daily, preferably in the evening from a metered-dose inhaler;
reduced to 80 mcg once daily for maintenance.

Nasal Spray:
1 spray (50 micrograms/spray) in each nostril once a day. The maximum total daily dosage should not exceed 2 sprays in each nostril (200 micrograms/day).

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
