Some medicines, like ketoconazole, itraconazole, clotrimazole, and ritonavir, can slow down the breakdown of other drugs by blocking the enzyme CYP3A4. Others, like rifampicin and phenytoin, can speed up this process and lower the amount of certain drugs, such as cyproterone, in your body.
Medications that increase the activity of enzymes CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 (for example, aminoglutethimide, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, and rifampin) may make estradiol less effective.
When taken together, these drugs may increase the effects of hydrocortisone and prednisolone. They can also change how well dicoumarol (a blood thinner) works.
Potentially serious: Some antibiotics (like ampicillin, tetracycline, sulphonamides, and chloramphenicol) may cause unexpected bleeding between periods or make birth control pills less effective. They may also reduce how well blood pressure medicines or diabetes medications work.
Serious liver problems or blocked bile flow; Dubin-Johnson or Rotor syndrome; liver tumors; cancer or severe wasting illnesses; severe ongoing depression; advanced diabetes with blood vessel damage; sickle cell anemia; past blood clots; kidney problems. Young people.
Cyproterone is a type of progestogen that also blocks the effects of male hormones (androgens). Oestradiol is the main estrogen hormone in women before menopause, while ethinylestradiol has similar effects to oestradiol. These hormones help develop and maintain the female reproductive system and secondary sexual traits, like breast development. They also stop certain hormones from being released by the anterior pituitary gland through negative feedback, and can cause blood vessels to widen, the body to hold onto more fluid, and increase protein production.
