Precautions and warnings
Tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have renal problems, before using this drug.
Cloxacillin may impair the effectiveness of live bacterial vaccinations such as the typhoid vaccine. Before getting any immunizations or vaccinations, tell your doctor if you're taking cloxacillin.
Kidney function deteriorates as you age. The kidneys eliminate this medicine. The elderly may be more sensitive to this medication.
In newborns, kidney function is not fully developed. The kidneys eliminate this medicine. This medicine may be particularly sensitive in newborns.
Side-effects
- Neutropenia
- agranulocytosis; GI upsets; rash. Sore mouth or tongue. Black hairy tongue. Potentially Fatal: Neuromuscular hypersensitivity; pseudomembranous colitis; anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
Fusidic acid, methotrexate, tetracyclines, warfarin, khat, and guar gum are some of the products that may interact with this medication.
If you forget to take a dose, do so as soon as you remember. If the next dose is approaching, skip the missing dose. Take your next dose at the same time every day. To catch up, do not increase the dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient to penicillins.
Mode of actions
Cloxacillin is resistant to penicillinase breakdown. It's especially effective against staphylococci that produce penicillinase. Highly effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus viridans, and Staphylococcus pneumoniae.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: PO 250-500 mg 4 times/day.
Child: 50-100 mg/kg in divided doses every 6 hr.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect even sometimes unable to demonstrate the risk on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required.

There is no specific information about whether this medicine is passed on to the baby through breast milk. Discuss with your doctor before breastfeeding.
