Drug Interactions

Probenecid or sulfinpyrazone can decrease the drug’s excretion. Magnesium trisilicate can lower its absorption. Quinolone antibiotics may work against its effects. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors or medicines that make urine more alkaline can reduce its effectiveness.

Contraindications

Allergic Reactions: If you are allergic to other nitrofuran medicines, you might also have a reaction to this medication.

Mode of actions

It can kill many types of bacteria, both gram-negative and gram-positive. It also works against trypanosomes.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: Apply as 0.2% topical preparation in a water-soluble or water-miscible basis to the affected area.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect even sometimes unable to demonstrate the risk on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required.
