Precautions and warnings
Apply Tazarotene cream only to the affected skin areas, and use it only on the outside of your body. Keep it away from your eyes, eyelids, and mouth. If it gets into your eyes, rinse them well with water.
Do not use retinoids on skin with eczema, as they can cause severe irritation.
While using Tazarotene cream, avoid sunlight and sunlamps unless your doctor says it is necessary. If you must be in the sun, keep exposure to a minimum because your skin will burn more easily.
Be careful if you are taking medicines that make your skin more sensitive to light (such as thiazides, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, phenothiazines, or sulfonamides), as using Tazarotene cream with these drugs can increase your risk of sunburn.
Side-effects
- Generally Tazarotene cream is well-tolerated .The most frequent adverse events related to treatment with Tazarotene are skin-related as for example pruritus

- irritation
- desquamation
- stinging
- contact dermatitis
- dermatitis
- eczema
- worsening of psoriasis
- skin pain
- rash
- hypertriglyceridemia
- dry skin
- skin inflammation
- and peripheral edema.
Drug Interactions
Using this product along with other skin medications or cosmetics that are irritating or very drying can make your skin even drier. There is also a higher risk of your skin becoming more sensitive to sunlight if you use it with drugs that are known to cause photosensitivity.
Contraindications
People who are allergic to any of the ingredients in Tazarotene cream should not use it.
Mode of actions
Tazarotene is a man-made retinoid that you apply to your skin. Once on the skin, it changes into its active form called tazarotenic acid. This active form works by changing how skin cells grow and develop, which helps treat conditions like acne and psoriasis.
Dosage & Administration
For psoriasis: Apply once daily in the evening usually for up to twelve weeks. Use and dose must be determined by the doctor of children upto 12 years of age.
For acne: Cleanse the face gently. After the skin is dry, apply a thin layer of Tazarotene cream once per day, in the evening, to the skin areas where acne lesions appear. Use enough to cover the entire affeted area.
Pregnancy & Lactation
This medicine must not be used during pregnancy. It can be absorbed through the skin and lungs caused can damage your unborn child’s organs and cause congenital disabilities. Strict two effective types of birth control starting one month before and during treatment and for three years after stopping this medicine. Discuss with your doctors if you are not sure which types of birth control are effective for you. You must need to take pregnancy tests regularly during your treatment with this medicine and for at least three years after taking this medicine. If it seems that you do become pregnant stop taking this medicine and call your doctor immediately. If you really become pregnant, miss a menstrual period, or have sex without using two forms of birth control. In some cases, your doctor can prescribe emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy. People on this medicine should not donate blood during the treatment and for three years afterward.
This medicine is also contraindicated breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this medication and for three years afterward.
