This medication can increase the risk of lithium toxicity. It may also cause or worsen low blood pressure, especially when taken with alcohol, barbiturates, antipsychotics, narcotics, or other blood pressure medications. If combined with NSAIDs or high doses of salicylates, it can raise the risk of sudden kidney problems, especially in dehydrated patients. There is a higher chance of low blood sugar if taken with diabetes medicines like sulfonylureas or insulin. Taking it with baclofen may further lower blood pressure. However, using it with corticosteroids or tetracosactide may make it less effective at lowering blood pressure. The risk of high potassium levels goes up if combined with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements. Some anesthesia drugs may cause a stronger drop in blood pressure when used together. Using this medication with allopurinol, immune-suppressing drugs, procainamide, or corticosteroids increases the risk of a low white blood cell count. Lastly, using it with other blood pressure medications can have an additive effect, making blood pressure drop even more.
Perindopril is a type of medicine called an ACE inhibitor. It works by blocking the change of angiotensin I into angiotensin II, a substance that raises blood pressure. By doing this, it lowers the activity of the sympathetic nervous system and also blocks an enzyme called kininase, which affects substances like bradykinin in the body.
Indapamide is related to sulfonamides and has a special chemical structure called an indole ring. It works by stopping the kidneys from taking back sodium in a certain part of the kidney. This makes you urinate more, which helps lower blood pressure.
