Die Anfangsdosis hängt von einer Schätzung des Ausmaßes der Vergiftung ab, wie unten beschrieben:
1. Minimale Vergiftung – Fortschreitende lokale Schwellung, aber keine systemischen Symptome. Es wird empfohlen, 5 Durchstechflaschen (50 ml) zu verabreichen.
2. Mäßige Vergiftung – Schwellung über die Bissstelle hinaus, leichte systemische Symptome und/oder hämatologische und Gerinnungsstörungen sind vorhanden. Es wird empfohlen, 5 bis 10 Durchstechflaschen (50 bis 100 ml) zu verabreichen.
3. Schwere Vergiftung – Schnell fortschreitende und ausgedehnte lokale Wirkungen, systemische Symptome und Anzeichen einer Hämolyse oder Koagulopathie. Es wird empfohlen, 10 bis 20 Durchstechflaschen (100–200 ml) oder mehr zu verabreichen.
Bei Kindern und kleinen Erwachsenen (Körpergewicht unter 40 kg) wird die Verabreichung von bis zu 50 % mehr Dosen Snake Venom Antiserum empfohlen.
VERWALTUNG:
Schlangengift-Antiserum wird intravenös verabreicht, entweder unverdünnt mit einer Geschwindigkeit von nicht mehr als 1 ml pro Minute oder verdünnt in 500 ml intravenöser Flüssigkeit (entweder Natriumchlorid-Injektion oder 5 % Dextrose-Injektion) und so schnell wie verträglich über 1–2 Stunden verabreicht. Während Sie das Schlangengift-Antiserum verdünnen, mischen Sie es durch leichtes Schwenken statt durch Schütteln, um Schaumbildung zu vermeiden.
Zusätzliche Infusionen sollten stündlich wiederholt werden, bis die fortschreitende Schwellung im gebissenen Teil aufhört und die systemischen Anzeichen und Symptome verschwinden. Wenn eine angemessene Dosierung erreicht wird, ist häufig eine Verbesserung der klinischen Symptome des Patienten zu beobachten.
Die FDA hat dieses Arzneimittel noch nicht in eine bestimmte Schwangerschaftskategorie eingestuft. Allerdings gibt es keine ausreichenden Beweise dafür, dass die Einnahme dieses Arzneimittels während der Schwangerschaft schädlich ist.

Systemic envenomation- a) Neurotoxic syndrome- signs of neuro-paralysis like blurring of vision, double vision, and difficulty in swallowing, sleepy feeling, drooping of head, slurring of speech and the voice may become indistinct with shallow breathing, ptosis, ataxia, respiratory paralysis and generalized flaccid paralysis. b) Hemotoxic syndrome- spontaneous systemic bleeding, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and abdominal tenderness suggestive of gastro-intestinal or retro-peritoneal bleed and/or renal damage, coagulopathy detected by 20 min WBCT with or without external bleeding and shock.
