La dose initiale dépend d'une estimation de la quantité d'envenimation comme mentionné ci-dessous :
1. Envenimation minimale – Gonflement local progressif mais aucun symptôme systémique. Il est recommandé d'administrer 5 flacons (50 ml).
2. Envenimation modérée – Un gonflement au-delà du site de la morsure, de légers symptômes systémiques et/ou des anomalies hématologiques et de coagulation sont présents. Il est recommandé d'administrer 5 à 10 flacons (50 à 100 ml).
3. Envenimation sévère - Effets locaux étendus et rapidement progressifs, symptômes systémiques et signes d'hémolyse ou de coagulopathie. Il est recommandé d'administrer 10 à 20 flacons (100 à 200 ml) ou plus.
Chez les enfants et les petits adultes (poids corporel inférieur à 40 kg), il est recommandé d'administrer jusqu'à 50 % de doses supplémentaires d'antisérum au venin de serpent.
ADMINISTRATION :
L'antisérum au venin de serpent est administré par voie intraveineuse soit non dilué à un débit ne dépassant pas 1 ml par minute, soit dilué dans 500 ml de liquide intraveineux (soit une injection de chlorure de sodium, soit une injection de dextrose à 5 %) et est administré aussi rapidement que toléré sur 1 à 2 heures. Tout en diluant l’antisérum au venin de serpent, mélangez en agitant doucement plutôt qu’en agitant pour éviter la formation de mousse.
Des perfusions supplémentaires doivent être répétées toutes les heures jusqu'à ce que le gonflement progressif de la partie mordue cesse et que les signes et symptômes systémiques disparaissent. Lorsqu'une dose adéquate est atteinte, une amélioration des signes cliniques du patient est souvent constatée.
La FDA n'a pas encore classé ce médicament dans une catégorie de grossesse spécifiée. Bien qu’il n’y ait pas suffisamment de preuves démontrant que la prise de ce médicament pendant la grossesse est nocive.

Si vous arrêtez de prendre ce médicament et tombez malade, cela serait plus pernicieux pour votre enfant que de continuer à prendre le médicament.
