Laxitol is indicated for

Constipation
Hepatic encephalopathy

Side-effects

Abdominal distension
flatulance
abdominal cramp.

Contraindications

People who are allergic to any of the active ingredients should not take this medicine. It should also not be used by those with a blockage in their digestive system or by people who have galactosaemia (a condition where the body cannot process galactose, a type of sugar).

Mode of actions

In the colon, it is broken down into short-chain organic acids, which raises the osmotic pressure. This leads to more water being drawn into the stool, making it larger and softer.

Dosage & Administration

2 teaspoonfuls (20g) once or twice daily with plenty of water

Pregnancy & Lactation

FDA has not yet classified this medicine into a specified pregnancy category. Although there is no enough evidence that taking this medicine during you are pregnant is harmful.
