Mode of actions

Gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative cocci, some other gram-negative bacteria, spirochetes, and actinomycetes are all susceptible to benzylpenicillin. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding and inactivating transpeptidases on the inner surface of the bacterial cell membrane, preventing the final cross-linking stage of peptidoglycan biosynthesis. Penicillinase and other lactamases are inhibitors.
