Poly ethylene Glycol 3350 + Electrolytes Similar medicine
**For patients with heart problems:**
When treating faecal impaction, the dose should be split so that no more than two sachets are taken in one hour. If the patient shows signs of fluid or electrolyte changes (such as swelling, shortness of breath, feeling very tired, dehydration, or heart failure), stop the treatment right away and treat any problems that arise. Using laxatives for too long is not recommended, as it can lead to dependence.
If a patient has symptoms that could mean a bowel blockage (like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or swelling), a doctor should check to make sure there is no blockage before starting treatment.
Polyethylene glycol should not be used by people who have a possible or confirmed bowel blockage, or by those who are allergic to polyethylene glycol.
Polyethylene Glycol works by keeping water in the stool, making it softer and easier to pass. It does not change how the body absorbs or releases glucose or electrolytes.
Sodium chloride is the main salt found outside cells. It helps maintain the balance of fluids and electrolytes in the body, controls water movement, and restores sodium levels. It is used to provide fluids and electrolytes for hydration, treat metabolic acidosis, prepare blood filters for dialysis, and manage diabetes with high blood sugar. It can also be used to dilute other medicines before giving them through an IV.
Potassium chloride is an important salt found inside cells. It helps send nerve signals in the heart, brain, and muscles, allows muscles to contract, and is necessary for healthy kidney function, acid-base balance, using carbohydrates for energy, and stomach acid production.
Sodium bicarbonate increases the pH of blood and urine by providing bicarbonate ions, which neutralize acids in the body. It also neutralizes stomach acid by producing carbon dioxide.
Constipation: The dose is 1 sachet daily. This may be increased to 2-3 sachets daily, if required.
Fecal Impaction: 8 sachets daily, consumed within 6 hours. A course of treatment for fecal impaction does not normally exceed 3 days.
