Duralax is indicated for
- Constipation

Precautions and warnings
Swallow the tab in its entirety. Irritable bowel disease for pregnancy.
Side-effects
- Abdominal discomfort (colic
- cramps). Suppositories may cause irritation
- proctitis.
Drug Interactions
Within 1 hour of taking the medicine, do not offer antacids or milk (enteric-coated).
Contraindications
Acute surgical abdominal or intestinal obstruction, extreme dehydration, faecal impaction, and long-term use are all possibilities.
Mode of actions
Bisacodyl promotes bowel evacuation by enhancing the motility of the large intestine.
Dosage & Administration
Oral
Constipation
Adult: 5-10 mg at night.
Child: >4 yr: 5 mg at night time.
Elderly:
Oral
Bowel evacuation
Adult: Initially, 10-20 mg the night before the procedure followed by 10 mg suppository admin rectally the next morning.
Child: >10 yr: Same as adult dose. 4-10 yr: 5 mg the night before the procedure and 5 mg suppository admin rectally the following morning.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
