Drug Interactions

Some drugs can increase the amount of medication in your blood by affecting liver enzymes. Examples include azithromycin, cimetidine, erythromycin, fluoxetine, and ketoconazole.

Using this medication with certain other drugs can increase the risk of side effects:

- The risk of high blood pressure and irregular heartbeat is higher if taken with heart medications (such as cardiac glycosides, quinidine, or tricyclic antidepressants).
- There is a higher chance of strong blood vessel constriction if used with ergot alkaloids or oxytocin.
- Taking this medication with MAO inhibitors (MAOIs) may cause a dangerous increase in blood pressure (hypertensive crisis).
- Using it with certain anesthetics (like cyclopropane, halothane, and other halogenated anesthetics) or blood pressure medicines (antihypertensives) may cause interactions.

Mode of actions

Desloratadine is a long-lasting allergy medicine that does not cause drowsiness. It works by blocking histamine H1 receptors outside the brain and stops certain immune cells from releasing substances that cause inflammation.

Pseudoephedrine works by activating alpha and beta-adrenergic receptors. It causes blood vessels in the nose to narrow, which reduces congestion. It also relaxes the airways and can increase heart rate and the strength of heartbeats.

Dosage & Administration

PO: Adults and adolescent of 12 years or over : 1 tablet (2.5 mg desloratadine/120 mg pseudoephedrine) 12 hourly.
1 tablet (5 mg desloratadine/240 mg pseudoephedrine) 24 hourly.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
