Precautions and warnings
Epilepsy or history of seizures; avert completely in unstable cases, Hepatic or renal impairment, cardiac disorders for example, conduction disturbances, angina pectoris, past MI, Hypotension, DM, psychoses, history of bipolar disorder, Stop treatment if jaundice develops, Micturition disturbances, fish-cloture glaucoma, raised intraocular pressure, Monitor patient for signs of bone marrow depression, Monitor patient for dangerous tendency, Avoid sharp withdrawal, May impair ability to drive or control machinery, Pregnancy and lactation, Elderly.
Increase in appetite
- oedema; drowsiness or sedation; dizziness
- increased liver enzyme levels; jaundice. Orthostatic hypotension
- restless legs syndrome
- reversible agranulocytosis
Potentiation of tranquilizing effects with alcohol or benzodiazepines, Increased plasma levels with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (for example, HIV-protease inhibitors, azalea antifungals including ketoconazole, erythromycin, nefazodone), Reduced plasma levels with carbamazepine and other inducers of CYP3A4, Increased bioavailability with cimetidine,Potentially Fatal: Do not use with or within 2 week of stopping an MAOI; at least 1 week should pass between discontinuing mirtazapine and initiating any drug which may raise a serious reaction (for example, phenelzineu).
Mirtazapine Tablets are contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to mirtazapine or to any of the excipients.
Mode of actions
Mirtazapine, a piperazinoazepine tetracyclic antidepressant, enhances nor vasoconstrictor and serotonergic activity through blockade of central presynaptic adrenergic ?2-receptors.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: PO Initial: The recommended starting dose for (mirtazapine) Tablets is 15 mg/day, administered in a single dose, preferably in the evening prior to sleep. In the treatment of major depressive disorder, the effective dose range was generally 15-45 mg/day as 1-2 divided doses.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.
Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.
This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
